Setup of MEL in Data Editor

The MEL Data Editor is accessed from the Data Tab and the Data Editor icon.

Within the MEL Data Editor the user can add or remove MEL restrictions in the various fields.

Once a MEL restriction has been added it is made active (Y) or inactive (blank field) with a Y in the second column.

Each MEL item can be added to an entire Type or just an individual registration of aircraft. In the example below, an A320 with tail numbers OY201 and OY309 have both been limited to a max Flight Level of 250 due to inoperative cabin differential indicators.

Data example

In the example below from the MEL Data Editor, aircraft OYMAN has a MEL restriction that limits it to a max altitude of FL250.

When the MEL restriction is active and OYMAN is used to create a flight then a caution warning is shown reporting that a MEL restriction is in force. The warning informs the user to refer to the MEL tab in the preview window.

Fuel bias in MEL

For MEL items which include fuel penalties (i.e. an extra percentage increase fuel bias that exists already), the calculated fuel includes that extra MEL fuel percentage multiplied with the basic fuel bias (as listed in the AC6-file).

For example, if the percent fuel dev (basic fuel bias) has a value of 4 (i.e. +4%) and a MEL addition of 5% is applied it will give 9.2% in the OFP flight log (i.e. increases of 1.04 x 1.05 = 1.092 extra (9.2% increase overall)).

Similarly, if the same aircraft has a second additional MEL increase of 6% then the calculation becomes 1.04 x 1.05 x 1.06=1.15752 above the listed fuel (15.752% increase overall).
